iClicker REEF Polling system is an in-class voting system that allows students to user their phones, tablets, or laptop/desktop computers to participate in real-time voting during class. For now, information for faculty is being directly communicated. If you are faculty in KSAS/WSE and are interested in using iClicker REEF, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Students - Getting Started
Setting up and using iClicker REEF is easy and can be summarized in a few steps:
- If you're using a phone or tablet to vote, download the app
- If you don't already have one, create a student account on iClicker (app or browser) (only one account needed)
- Login to iClicker REEF via the app or a browser
- Find your classes and add yourself to those classes
- Purchase a subscription (new accounts can vote for 2 weeks, then a subscription is required)
- Join your class when it's running and vote!
Here are some detailed instructions from iClicker.
JHU Specific Notes
You only need one iClicker student account. If you think you might already have one, check using the REEF password reset.
If you are setting up an account for the first time, you should use the same email address that is used by Blackboard. What is this address? It's usually your email@example.com, unless you have changed your email in SIS. You can tell for sure by logging into https://blackboard.jhu.edu/ then clicking on your name in the upper right and choosing Settings > Personal Information > Edit Personal Information.
You should also use your JHED ID (with no other information) in the last field (JHED ID). Do not use firstname.lastname@example.org or your student ID. JHED IDs look like jhopkin1, not like 4RGL38 (which is a student ID). Here's a graphic for reference.
After you've logged in with an existing account, add your Fall Courses that are using iClicker. You can search by course name, faculty name, or course number.
Purchasing a subscription will be required. New iClicker accounts may participate in voting for 2 weeks for no charge. You can use this time to make sure your account is working correctly. After 2 weeks, you will need to purchase a subscription to continue voting. You can do this in the app or on https://www.iclicker.com/pricing#student-pricing.
For refence, the plan is to use iClicker REEF from Fall 2020 on. If you think you will only need it this one semester, purchase the 6-month subscription. For first-year students, it makes sense to purchase a 1-2 year plan (or greater), since there is some savings and you will probably use it in Spring 2021 and later.
The most common student issues are:
- duplicate acocunts,
- wrong email,
- or wrong JHED ID.
Please read the instructions above carefully and edit your REEF Account Profile if needed to make sure you get credit for all your votes. If your instructor tells you that your REEF account is not synchronizing with Blackboard, you may need to update your email or JHED, here's a quick guide on iClicker Roster & Grade Sync Integration.
Unlike the old physical clicker system, REEF allows you to review your voting history in detail.
You can also create your own study tools based on questions asked during class.
